SK Hynix launched Gold P31 M.2 SSD with 2TB capacity

Last year, SK Hynix launched the Gold P31 series SSD for the consumer market. It uses a 128-layer stacked 4D NAND flash memory, uses PCI-E 3.0 x4 channels, the form factor is M.2 2280, and provides two capacities of 500GB and 1TB. SK Hynix is the world’s first manufacturer to mass-produce 128-layer flash memory and the first manufacturer to sell 128-layer flash memory.

The so-called 4D NAND flash memory is essentially 3D NAND flash memory, but the PUC (Peri Under Cell) circuit of the NAND flash memory cell unit is moved from its original position to the bottom. The advantage is that the output of each wafer can be increased, and ultimately less silicon can be used per GB of storage capacity, which can reduce production costs. SK Hynix Gold P31 M.2 SSD sequential read and write speeds are 3500 MB/s and 3200 MB/s, which basically reach the upper limit of PCI-E 3.0 x4 channel bandwidth. At the same time, Gold P31 M.2 SSD’s power consumption is relatively low, the heat generation is small, and it has a good energy consumption ratio. It is very suitable for notebook computers and has been well evaluated.

However, today, the maximum capacity of 1TB is obviously too small to meet the needs of some consumers. Recently, SK Hynix announced that the Gold P31 M.2 SSD will add a 2TB version, and its PCB will be changed from green to black. The main control chip named Cepheus is still used, and the maximum write capacity is also increased to 1200 TBW. Although the Gold P31 M.2 SSD with 2TB capacity has already been shown, it has been more than a year ago. SK Hynix is one of the last SSD manufacturers to launch a 2TB capacity.
Sanglae Lee, Marketing Director of SK Hynix, said that the Gold P31 M.2 SSD with 2TB capacity is aimed at users with large capacity and high-performance needs. Next, SK Hynix will continue to expand the consumer-grade SSD product line to increase market share and meet the needs of more consumers. At present, the Gold P31 M.2 SSD with a capacity of 2TB is already on Amazon, and the price is US$279.99.
