September 2021 Steam Hardware Survey: AMD CPU share record high

In the previous Steam hardware survey, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 graphics card has surpassed the sum of all models in the AMD Radeon RX 6000 series. Moreover, the GeForce RTX 3090 is the smallest product in the entire GeForce RTX 30 series of NVIDIA. Among AMD’s RDNA 2 architecture graphics cards, the best-selling one is the Radeon RX 6700 XT.

The Steam hardware survey in September showed that the Radeon RX 6700 XT had a share of 0.16% seven months after its release. It closely followed the GeForce RTX 3050 Ti and could finally be displayed separately. This is the first GPU to display separately in the AMD Radeon RX 6000 series. Among other Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs, Radeon RX 6600 XT may appear soon. Products with Navi 21 core may have to wait longer, although Radeon RX 6800 XT is currently the second-ranked RDNA 2 architecture graphics card.

The current shares of Radeon RX 6800/6800 XT/6900 XT are 0.05%, 0.11% and 0.10%, respectively. In contrast, Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3080/3080 Ti/3090’s shares are 0.99%, 0.26% and 0.42%, respectively.  In addition, the total share of the GeForce RTX 30 series is 7.96%, and the total share of the Radeon RX 6000 series is 0.43%. NVIDIA still has a huge advantage.

Unlike GPU, AMD performs much better in CPU, currently occupying a 30.3% share. This is AMD’s highest share in many years, thanks to the outstanding performance of the Zen 3 architecture, which provides gamers with very good performance. Prior to this, AMD’s CPU had declined, falling to 27.31% in August, a significant rebound after a month.

There are still big problems with the supply of GPUs. Both Nvidia and AMD hope to manufacture and sell more GPUs, but TSMC and Samsung are already producing at full speed.
