Seagate plans to launch 50TB HDDs in 2026, and 100TB HDDs in 2030

Hard disk manufacturer Seagate recently released its latest product and technology roadmap. In the roadmap, Seagate announced its development plan for large-capacity mechanical hard drives in the next 10 years.

There is some pressure to realize ultra-large-capacity mechanical hard drives with current technology, so Seagate plans to use new magnetic recording technology to increase the capacity of hard drives in the future.

While increasing the capacity, it is also necessary to ensure that the performance of the mechanical hard disk can also be improved. Seagate hopes to provide multi-actuator technology to improve the performance of the mechanical hard disk.

Seagate plans to launch a mechanical hard drive with a capacity of 50TB in 2026. According to the current technological development, 50TB should not be too difficult for Seagate to work.

Seagate plans to launch mechanical hard drives with a capacity of 100TB before 2030, and Seagate also plans to deliver mechanical hard drives with a capacity of 120TB or more around 2030.

Although the use of SSD is becoming more and more widespread, mechanical hard drives will not withdraw from the stage of history. Mechanical hard drives provide stable storage with greater capacity.

Especially in the future development of cloud technology, the increasing amount of data storage mechanical hard drives will still play an important role, which is also the main driving force for Seagate to continue research and development.
