Samsung will launch the Galaxy Book S with Lakefield processor
At today’s 2019 Samsung Developers Conference, Samsung released the new Galaxy Book series: Galaxy Book S, Galaxy Book Flex and Galaxy Book Ion. Galaxy Book Flex and Galaxy Book Ion will use Intel’s 10th generation processor, while Galaxy Book S will use the same Lakefield processor as Surface Neo.
Recently we reported on Intel’s custom development of the Lakefield processor for Microsoft. At present, Samsung is also interested in this processor. Intel said the Galaxy Book S will be the first product to ship with the Lakefield processor, while the Galaxy Book S will also support LTE connectivity. We hope that Microsoft’s Surface Neo will also support LTE connectivity.
The Lakefield processor features a 10mm process and a more advanced Foveros 3D package technology that will provide the processor with higher energy efficiency and smaller package size. Therefore, OEMs using this processor can design a lighter and thinner product. Compared to previous generation processors, this processor significantly reduces standby power, core area (12x12x1mm), and package height. Because the Lakefield processor combines the Tremont core with the scalable Sunny Cove core, the Lakefield processor delivers good computing performance and next-generation graphics performance in a low-power mode of operation. For this reason, devices equipped with Lakefield processors can achieve a longer battery life.
