Samsung SmartThings IoT Platform Integrates Matter Into Ecosystem

At its annual developer conference last year, Samsung confirmed it would make its IoT platform SmartThings compatible with the Matter (a royalty-free home automation connectivity standard). In an earlier announcement, Samsung also began making its SmartThings platform compatible with other IoT devices that are also compatible with the Matter connectivity specification.

The first wave of compatible connected devices, including Aeotec, Aqara, eve, Leedarson, Nanoleaf, Netatmo, Sengled, wemo, Wiz, and Yale brand products, can be directly linked without the use of other central devices.

With Samsung’s SmartThings app, you can also directly connect to operate the above-mentioned brand product functions. It also supports connections through Bluetooth low energy, Thread network, and Wi-Fi, and is also compatible with Amazon’s Alexa, Google Assistant, or Apple’s Siri digital assistant service.

After the previous delay of the online operation schedule, the Matter connection specification is currently determined to be officially launched at the end of this year. In addition to Samsung’s announcement that it will make SmartThings compatible with the Matter connection specification, Google also mentioned at Google I/O 2022 held earlier that it will make its wearable devices and IoT devices compatible with the Matter connection specification.

As for connecting more IoT devices through the Matter connection specification, in addition to eliminating the original restrictions and troubles of each IoT device corresponding to different connection specifications, users will be able to connect all IoT devices with each other more easily.
