Samsung releases Galaxy Z Flip 5 & Fold 5 and Galaxy Tab S9

Yesterday, Samsung unveiled the latest iterations of their foldable screen smartphones, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5, as well as the Galaxy Tab S9 series tablets during the Galaxy Unpacked event. Samsung suggests that with industry-leading compact design aesthetics, a plethora of customization options, and powerful performance, these devices are set to provide a unique experience for every user.

A prominent feature of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is Samsung’s first implementation of a seamless hinge design, minimizing the gap between the two screen halves, thus rendering the phone noticeably sleeker. Compared to its predecessors, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Z Flip 4, the thickness of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 when folded has been reduced from 15.9mm (excluding the camera module) to 15.1mm. Additionally, the outer screen has been enlarged from 1.9 inches to 3.4 inches. Dubbed as the “Flex Window” by Samsung, it introduces a multitude of user scenarios and personalized functionalities, incorporating new widgets and a multi-widget view.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is equipped with Qualcomm’s second-generation Snapdragon 8 mobile platform (for Galaxy), complemented by 8GB RAM and 256GB/512GB of flash storage. It utilizes a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X foldable inner screen, with a resolution of 2640 x 1080, an adaptive refresh rate of 1-120Hz, and a 3.4-inch Super AMOLED outer screen, with a resolution of 720 x 748, and a refresh rate of 60Hz. Other specifications include a 3700mAh battery with support for 25W fast charging and 15W wireless charging, IPX8 waterproofing, dual rear cameras each with 12 million pixels, a 10 million pixel front camera, side fingerprint recognition, and support for 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.3.

Similarly, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is powered by Qualcomm’s second-generation Snapdragon 8 mobile platform (for Galaxy), bolstered by 12GB RAM and 256GB/512GB/1TB of flash storage. The 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X foldable inner screen has a resolution of 2176 x 1812, an adaptive refresh rate of 1-120Hz, and a peak brightness of 1750 nits. It also boasts a 6.2-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X outer screen, with a resolution of 2316 x 904, and an adaptive refresh rate of 48-120Hz. Additionally, it features a 4400mAh battery with 25W fast charging and 15W wireless charging support, IPX8 waterproofing, S Pen support, a dual rear camera system with a 50 million pixel main camera, a 12 million pixel ultra-wide-angle camera, a 10 million pixel telephoto camera, a 10 million pixel outer screen front camera, a 4 million pixel under-screen camera on the inner screen, side fingerprint recognition, and supports 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.3.

Both the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 come preinstalled with One UI 5.1.1, built on Android 13, enhancing productivity and multitasking abilities on large-screen devices. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 comes in colors of Ice Mint, Cloud Shadow Grey, Starlight White, and Ice Rose Purple, while the Galaxy Z Fold 5 offers color options of Ice Blue, Cosmic Night Black, and Starlight White.

Samsung also released the Galaxy Tab S9 series tablets, which include the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra, Galaxy Tab S9+, and the Galaxy Tab S9. All of them are equipped with the second-generation Dynamic AMOLED display and powered by Qualcomm’s second-generation Snapdragon 8 mobile platform (for Galaxy). The accompanying S Pen not only supports IP68 dust and water resistance, but the new Galaxy Tab S9 series is also the first in the Galaxy Tab S series to receive the IP68 dust and water resistance certification.
