Samsung is developing a new 5nm Exynos 1280 for entry-level models

Compared with the previous SoCs of this series, Samsung’s Exynos 2100 has a significant improvement in performance. The Exynos 2200, which is planned to be unveiled on the Galaxy S22 series of smartphones, has given Samsung higher expectations. It uses AMD mRDNA architecture GPU code-named “Voyager” for the first time, integrates 6 CUs with a total of 384 stream processors, supports ray tracing and variable-rate shading, which can make up for the shortcomings of Samsung Exynos series SoCs that have been weak in graphics performance.

It is rumored that Samsung has begun mass production of various parts and components required for the Galaxy S22 series of smartphones to ensure the smooth release of new products. In addition, the performance of Exynos 2200 gave Samsung more ideas. It is said that in the future, the Galaxy A series will also be equipped with Exynos series SoCs with simplified configuration, relatively reduced specifications and performance, in order to expand the number of models equipped with the Exynos series and further penetrate the consumer market.

According to Twitter user @UniverseIce, Samsung is developing Exynos 1280, which is manufactured using a 5nm process. Its specifications and performance will be lower than Exynos 1080, mainly for the entry-level market, positioning the low-end. In addition to mobile phones, there will also be tablet devices. At present, there is very little information about Exynos 1280, CPU and GPU specifications, and other information is not clear, but it is very likely that it will also support 5G networks.

It is also reported that, in addition to the high-end and low-end Exynos series SoCs, Samsung is also developing mid-range products. It is believed that the number of Galaxy phones equipped with their own chips will increase in the future. In addition, the first model equipped with Exynos 1280 is not necessarily Samsung’s own model, which means that Samsung may also intend to compete with Qualcomm and MediaTek for the mobile phone chip market, and the mobile phone market may become more lively.
