Samsung plans to hold Samsung Exynos 2022 event on January 12
Samsung issued a teaser video on its Twitter official account, announcing that it will hold a press conference on January 11, 2022, to launch Exynos 2200 SoC. This product, which uses Arm core CPU and AMD RDNA 2 architecture technology GPU, is finally going to meet you after several delays.
The GPU codename of Exynos 2200 is rumored to be “Voyager”, which integrates 6 CUs with a total of 384 stream processors, supports ray tracing and variable-rate shading, which can make up for the shortcomings of Samsung SoC’s weak graphics performance. Although it has been reported that Exynos 2200 has encountered setbacks in manufacturing using Samsung’s 4nm LPE process and the chip has power consumption problems, it seems that it has entered the final stage. The new chip will target the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 mobile platform and MediaTek’s Dimensity 9000.
The news that Samsung and AMD are cooperating to develop GPUs in the mobile field is no longer news. It has been around for a long time. As early as June 2019, the two parties announced a strategic partnership, as part of this agreement, Samsung will obtain AMD graphics IP authorization and apply it on mobile platforms, focusing on enhancing the provision of vital advanced graphics technologies and solutions on mobile devices.
AMD made the wrong decision in 2009 to sell the Imageon graphics business to Qualcomm, making AMD basically lose its voice on the mobile platform. Qualcomm, on the other hand, is based on Imageon’s related technology and gradually developed into the Adreno series of GPUs, which shines on mobile platforms. After many years, AMD has finally returned to the mobile market. If the results of the cooperation with Samsung can finally pass the test of the market, it will undoubtedly be of great significance to AMD.
