Samsung begins mass production of UFS 3.1 memory solutions for vehicles

Samsung has announced the commencement of mass production for their innovative UFS 3.1 storage solutions, explicitly optimized for in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) systems. Boasting the industry’s lowest power consumption, this cutting-edge technology enables automobile manufacturers to deliver an unparalleled vehicular experience for consumers.

Hyunduk Cho, Vice President of Samsung’s Memory Product Planning Team, affirmed that the latest UFS 3.1 storage solution caters to the diverse needs of customers in IVI systems, whilst also meeting higher ESG standards, resonating with the next-generation storage trends. Samsung, having ventured into automotive storage solutions since 2015, has maintained a swift growth trajectory. They introduced the industry’s first automotive UFS storage solution in 2017 and expanded their influence in the automotive semiconductor market through an array of SSDs, LPDDR5X, and GDDR6 products.

Samsung’s automotive UFS 3.1 storage solution, satisfying the requirements of AEC-Q100 Grade 2 automotive certification—a quality standard for automotive semiconductors—ensures stable performance within a temperature range of -40°C to 105°C. It offers three storage capacities: 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB. To adapt to the future requirements of automotive applications, Samsung has enhanced product management for battery life. For instance, the 256GB product reduces power consumption by approximately 33% compared to its predecessor, offering a sequential writing speed of 700MB/s and a sequential reading speed of 2000MB/s.

Samsung is expected to supply these UFS 3.1 flash products to global automotive manufacturers and component manufacturers by the end of this year.
