Samsung 512GB DDR5 memory made with HKMG technology is 200% faster than DDR4
At present, some semiconductor companies in the industry have introduced DDR5 memory. This memory has a larger bandwidth and faster speed, while the internal voltage is reduced and the power consumption is down year-on-year.
It’s just that for the moment, home consumers may still have to wait to use this kind of memory, after all, the current high price of this kind of memory needs to upgrade the motherboard.
The semiconductor industry giant Samsung is currently developing DDR5 memory, but the memory developed by Samsung differs from its peers in terms of technology and capacity.
The DDR5 memory that Samsung is preparing to launch is made with a High-K Metal Gate (HKMG) process technology, which can reach 512GB in capacity and can provide a speed of 7200Mbps.
Samsung officially revealed that the company is developing a new memory medium that demonstrates the potential of the DDR5 standard in terms of memory in terms of speed and capacity.
This kind of memory uses a technology called High-K Metal Gate (HKMG) which can greatly increase the energy density and at the same time alleviate the leakage problem of the traditional process.
This technology also helps to improve the performance of storage media, so memory using this technology can not only reduce power consumption but also provide better performance.
Samsung said that the 512GB version of DDR5 will be the world’s first memory using HKMG technology, and its speed can reach 7200Mbps, which is twice that of DDR4.
The initial goal of this kind of memory is to meet the needs of supercomputing, artificial intelligence, and machine learning that need to exchange large amounts of data, but it will eventually be provided to home consumers.
Samsung officially stated that in addition to the significant increase in speed and capacity, this kind of memory also consumes 13% less power than non-HKMG memory, so it is very suitable for data centers.
Of course, for home consumers, using this kind of memory can also improve performance, but home consumers may need to wait for the price to slowly decrease.
Samsung also cited instructions from its partner Intel in the press release. Intel said that the memory will be compatible with the new Sapphire Rapids Xeon processor.
