RTX 3080 Ti graphics card has been bricked during the Diablo IV Beta
Some players may still remember the abnormalities that occurred during the closed beta phase of Amazon’s multiplayer online RPG game “New World” in 2021, especially with the GeForce RTX 3090 graphics card being the most severe, as it could potentially fail in a short period of time, with EVGA’s graphics card being the hardest hit.
Recently, Blizzard’s highly anticipated game “Diablo IV” has started its public beta, and similar issues seem to be occurring again. Many players have reported that using the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti to run “Diablo IV” could potentially cause malfunctions or even black screens.
According to a report by TomsHardware, based on statistics from the forum, 18 players have reported malfunctions, of which 16 were using RTX 3080 Ti graphics cards, with the remaining one using RTX 3080 and RX 6900 XT respectively. One player who was using Gigabyte’s GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Vision OC 12G had their graphics card fail after only 20 minutes of playtime, while in a scene located in a small chapel.
Most players reported that the crashes occurred during normal gameplay. Although the specific details varied slightly, the reported symptoms were consistent: the system suddenly went black, and then the graphics card fan began to spin frantically. Even after restarting the computer, there was no image displayed on the monitor. Some players have reported that they have encountered similar situations before but were lucky enough to still have a working graphics card after restarting.
In this “Diablo IV” public beta event, the RTX 3080 Ti graphics cards that experienced malfunctions were concentrated in Gigabytes. Some users have already applied for after-sales service from Gigabyte, reported the incident, and replaced their graphics cards, but Gigabyte did not provide specific details about the graphics card malfunction. It is still too early to determine whether the problem is with the game design of “Diablo IV” or with Gigabyte’s graphics cards. Blizzard stated that they are working closely with NVIDIA to identify the hardware configurations of affected players and collect as much data as possible to assist in the investigation.
