Rocky Linux will release its first RC version at the end of March
The latest announcement from the Rocky Linux community shows that its development team plans to release the Release candidate (RC) version of Rocky Linux before the second quarter. The current development plan is as follows:
- Build systems and infrastructure readiness – January 31
- Automatic package build infrastructures – January 31
- When the testing package repository will be made public – February 28
- Installer testing readiness – February 28
- ETA for length of time needed for community testing – March 31
- Release candidate availability – March 31
Therefore, the Rocky Linux team’s current work is mainly focused on the construction of infrastructure and continue to advance. According to reports, the Rocky Linux website is currently deployed in the us-east-2 region of AWS. Follow-up will be deployed in AWS us-west-2 and GovCloud. In addition to AWS, the Rocky Linux team is also cooperating and communicating with other mainstream cloud service providers as a supplement to AWS.
Regarding the architecture supported by Rocky Linux, the team stated that after continuous discussions with community members and foundation partners, they plan to give priority to supporting the x86_64 and ARM64 architectures, and their build versions will be released at the same time.
