Raspberry Pi sells the RP2040 chip separately for only $1
Earlier this year, the Raspberry Pi Foundation announced the launch of the Raspberry Pi Pico microcontroller equipped with RP2040 for embedded development, priced at only $4. Today, the Raspberry Pi Foundation has decided to sell the RP2040 chip separately, which can be purchased through distributors for $1, for those geeks or companies who want to build their own electronic products with this Raspberry Pi chip.
This RP2040 chip, priced at only $1, has two 133MHz ARM Cortex-M0+ cores and can run software such as FreeRTOS and MicroPython. In addition to these two embedded cores, there is 264KB of memory and support for all common I/O interfaces.
The Raspberry Pi Foundation stated that the Raspberry Pi Pico development board has shipped more than 600,000 units this year, and there are more than 700,000 orders in addition to this. At the same time, more creators and companies have been seeking to use the RP2040 chip to build their own products, which is why they have decided to provide the chip now at a price of $1. The Raspberry Pi Foundation expects that the RP2040 chip will be available on a large scale by this fall.
