Raspberry Pi prepares to go public, valued at $500 million
The Raspberry Pi single-board computer is a popular and interesting project around the world. Users can purchase this very small device to complete many excellent functions.
In some sense, the Raspberry Pi is not much different from the computer we use, but the actual performance is not as good as a regular computer because of its size.
But the advantage is that the Raspberry Pi is reasonably priced and very small in size, suitable for tasks with low load, such as DIY various interesting projects or as a mini-computer.
With the increasing popularity of the Raspberry Pi and the growing community, the revenue of the Raspberry Pi Foundation has naturally risen, so it has also been favored by investment companies.
In September 2021, the Raspberry Pi Foundation sold shares worth $45 million to two investment companies. According to news, the valuation of the Raspberry Pi reached $500 million.
Raspberry Pi didn’t seem to have received the attention of investment companies before, and as the lockdown caused by the coronavirus epidemic began, people spent more time indoors.
This has led to a substantial increase in the sales of Raspberry Pi single-board computers. For example, last year, the Raspberry Pi Foundation sold 7.1 million Raspberry Pi units and made a profit of $15.2 million.
“Obviously, the $45m we raised in September takes away some of the urgency around figuring out how we fund the future. On the other hand, we have great plans for what we are going to do over the next five years.” Raspberry Pi CEO Eben Upton, talking to The Telegraph.
