Qualcomm’s next-generation flagship SoC may be named Snapdragon 898
Previously, there were rumors that the development code name of Qualcomm’s next-generation flagship SoC is SM8450, and its official name is Snapdragon 895, which will be manufactured using Samsung’s 4nm process. According to Wccftech reports, the official name of this SoC is not the Snapdragon 895, but the Snapdragon 898, and its Cortex-X2 super core frequency will reach 3.09 Ghz.
Previously, the preliminary benchmark test results of SM8450 were leaked. In Geekbench, the Snapdragon 895 single-core benchmark score was 1250 points, and the multi-core benchmark score was 4000 points. If the Apple A14 Bionic is used as the comparison object, its single-core benchmark test score is 1596 points, and the multi-core benchmark test score is 4027 points. Although there is not much difference in multi-core performance, there is a certain gap in single-core performance.
It is rumored that Qualcomm is likely to obtain TSMC’s (TSMC) 4nm process capacity in the second half of 2022, and will release a so-called SM8450 Plus product, which will convert the foundry from Samsung to TSMC. This situation may be similar to the relationship between Snapdragon 780 and Snapdragon 778. The two products are similar but maybe slightly different. The new SoC is expected to be released in December this year, and TSMC OEM products will be released in the middle of next year.
