Qualcomm provides GPU driver updates via Google Play
At the Snapdragon Summit, Qualcomm announced the latest Snapdragon 865 mobile platform, which will be used for 5G phones launched next year. The mobile chip giant has also announced that it will provide Snapdragon 865 Adreno GPU driver updates via the Google Play Store.
This is big news for smartphone users, as they have no way to update GPU drivers. OEM manufacturers rarely ensure that the mobile phone’s GPU runs the latest driver. Users who want to update the driver usually need to wait until the manufacturer provides the next large version of Android.
Currently, Qualcomm only supports the Adreno 650 GPU driver update used by Snapdragon 865. Consumers can only hope that Qualcomm will provide out-of-band driver updates for more Snapdragon SoC platforms in the future.
