Qualcomm announced the date of this year’s Snapdragon Summit

Qualcomm announced that it will hold the Snapdragon Summit from November 15th to November 17th. A new generation of high-end SoCs, the Snapdragon 8 Gen2, is expected to be released, which will be at the heart of flagship models from major Android smartphone makers next year.

Although the production capacity of TSMC’s next-generation process has been tight recently, and Samsung has announced mass production of the 3nm GAA process, Qualcomm is likely to use TSMC’s 4nm process for mass production later this year. Judging from the recent performance of the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen1, the energy efficiency of the chip has been greatly improved after the wafer foundry was replaced.
Rumor has it that the Snapdragon 8 Gen2 will be more power efficient than the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen1, which means better performance in some intensive workloads. Many people may wonder why Qualcomm does not use the 3nm process that TSMC is about to mass-produce. This is probably the first batch of production capacity that has been reserved by Apple. It is said that the M2 Pro and M2 Max will be the first products, and Intel will also occupy part of the production capacity, and other manufacturers will have to wait until next year to have a chance.

In addition, Qualcomm has been promoting the development of chips with NUVIA technology, and the competition target is Apple’s M series chips. It will first be used in laptops for PC platforms, and in the future, the new racks will be extended to mobile, automotive, and data centers in due course, and eventually can be used to build high-performance PCs. However, it has now been delayed, and Qualcomm’s time to provide samples to partners has been changed from August 2022 to 2023. The launch of the first consumer laptops with the chip will also be delayed from late 2023 to early 2024.
