Python surpasses Java to become the second most popular programming language
The TIOBE index, which is specifically used to count the popularity of various programming languages, has been updated in November 2020. In this update, the title used by TIOBE is “Python is unstoppable”.
Because Python’s growth rate is as high as 2.27% and its popularity surpasses Java to become the second most popular programming language, number one is still C language, but its growth rate has been very slow. This update C language growth rate is only 0.17%.
At present, the popularity of Python is 12.12%, the C language is 16.21%, and Java is 11.68%. According to the growth trend of Python, it is estimated that Python may not take long to surpass the number one C language to win the crown.
Python’s rank second is also related to the continued decline of Java. While Python surged 2.27%, Java plummeted 4.57%, but Java still has 11.68% in the double-digit ranks. At present, only the top three C, Python, and Java are in double digits. C++ and so on after Java is single digits.
TIOBE said that this is the first time in the past 20 years that Java has not ranked among the top two. People attribute the popularity of Python to prosperous fields, such as data mining, artificial intelligence, and numerical computing, but TIOBE also said Python’s popularity is more related to general needs.
