PSVR2 PC Adapter Gets Certified, PC Support Coming Soon

In February, Sony PlayStation announced via its official blog that PC support for PSVR2 would be introduced later this year. According to MIXED, UploadVR, and Brad Lynch, the PSVR2 PC adapter has already received certification from South Korea’s RRA.

The device is named the PlayStation VR2 PC adapter, model number CFI-ZVP1, with the certification date being March 27. Although images are not yet available, given the certification, we can expect Sony to officially unveil this accessory soon. It is worth noting that Sony will hold a STATE OF PLAY event on May 31, lasting over 30 minutes and featuring 14 games, where the adapter may potentially be revealed.

Interestingly, even before Sony’s announcement, some third-party developers had already been exploring the possibility of using PSVR2 as a PCVR device. However, due to the hardware limitations of PSVR2, a DisplayPort AUX emulation adapter is indispensable, a challenge that even third-party developers cannot circumvent. The image below shows the adapter currently being developed by the iVRy team, which is based on the Raspberry Pi RP2040 chip.

PSVR2 was released on February 22, 2023. It features an OLED display panel with a per-eye resolution of 2000 x 2040 and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, though it still employs Fresnel lenses. Unlike its predecessor, PSVR2 uses an inside-out tracking system composed of four cameras. Additionally, it is a wired headset, connecting to the PS5 via USB Type-C.
