PC GPU market shipments decreased by -12.7% sequentially and decreased by -32% year to year

Recently, Jon Peddie Research (JPR) released the latest GPU market statistics report, showing that GPU shipments (including integrated and discrete graphics) used in PCs in the second quarter of 2022 were 84 million, down 7% quarter-on-quarter and down 33.7% year-on-year. In the long run, Jon Peddie Research expects GPUs to achieve a compound annual growth rate of 3.8% between 2022 and 2026, forecasting an installed base of 3,103 million units. The penetration rate of discrete graphics cards in PCs will grow to a level of 30% in the next five years.
In the second quarter of 2022, the overall connection rate of GPUs and PCs (including integrated and discrete graphics, desktops, notebooks, and workstations) was 121%, a decrease of 7.9% sequentially; desktop discrete graphics card shipments decreased by 22.6% month-on-month to 10.37 million; tablet PC shipments were unchanged from the previous quarter. Generally speaking, manufacturers reduce orders in the second quarter, and the performance will be worse than in the first quarter. The decline is normal, but the decline this year is higher than the average level of the past ten years.

In the second quarter of 2022, overall GPU unit shipments fell by 14.9% from the previous quarter. Among the three major suppliers, AMD saw the smallest decline, with a month-on-month decline of 7.6%, Intel fell by 9.8% month-on-month, and Nvidia dropped significantly by 25.7%. In the second quarter of 2022, AMD’s overall market share increased by 1.1% from the previous quarter to 20%; Intel’s overall market share increased by 2% to 62%; Nvidia’s overall market share fell 3.15% to 18%.

Jon Peddie Research said that most manufacturers expect an average decline of 2.81% in the next quarter, compared with the previous quarter’s forecast of 1.98%, which is too high.
