Nvidia will release a new version of the RTX 3060 graphics card, equipped with the GA104 GPU and 12GB of GDDR6X memory
Nvidia’s 60 series graphics cards for mainstream markets have always been regarded as great products and are the most popular version among gamers. Although many players have complained about the skyrocketing prices and decreased cost-effectiveness of the 60 series graphics cards in the past two years, sales data shows that they are still the most purchased products on both desktop and mobile platforms. Nvidia is expected to release the GeForce RTX 4060 based on the Ada Lovelace architecture this year, but before the new generation graphics cards arrive, it seems that they are still tinkering with the Ampere architecture’s GeForce RTX 3060.
T4C Fantasy, the database editor maintainer from TechPowerUp, said that Nvidia seems to be preparing to launch another new GeForce RTX 3060, equipped with the GA104 GPU and 12GB of GDDR6X memory. This means that there will be four different versions of the GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card on the market, including the LHR version and the 8GB memory version:
- GeForce RTX 3060 12GB GDDR6 – GA106-300
- GeForce RTX 3060 12GB GDDR6 LHR – GA106-302
- GeForce RTX 3060 8GB GDDR6 – GA106-302
- GeForce RTX 3060 12GB GDDR6X – GA104
In fact, this is not the first time that the GeForce RTX 3060 has been equipped with the GA104 GPU, as the existence of a GA104 version was previously discovered, but Nvidia did not officially acknowledge it. The biggest difference this time is that the memory has been upgraded from GDDR6 to GDDR6X. Similar to the situation with the RTX 3060 Ti, the memory bandwidth is expected to increase by 36%, which should provide a certain boost to performance.
Additionally, last month a GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card with 6GB of GDDR6 memory was also discovered, equipped with the GA106 and using all 3840 CUDA cores, but it seems to only be used in OEM systems. If you count this, there are already six different versions of the GeForce RTX 3060.
