Nvidia will offer discounts to partners, RTX 4070 drops to $549
NVIDIA unveiled the Ada Lovelace-based GeForce RTX 4070 this month, with an official Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $599. Swiftly, their partners introduced a plethora of new products, boasting ample supply and, unlike previous launches, lacking significant price inflation. In fact, certain models soon dipped below the suggested retail price.
According to TomsHardware, languishing sales and a dismal market environment in recent months prompted discussions between NVIDIA and their partners, with the former proposing a $50 rebate per graphics card. Gamers have noted a discernible price reduction for the GeForce RTX 4070, which, if rumors prove accurate, implies an effective MSRP drop to $549.
Certainly, gamers will rejoice in the GeForce RTX 4070’s price reduction. However, from the board manufacturers’ perspective, this adjustment is far from an effortless endeavor, given the chip/card bundle pricing from NVIDIA. Reportedly, NVIDIA granted their partners some breathing room, offering not only rebates but also discounts on future orders.
Board manufacturers prefer a gradual price decline, rather than an abrupt drop, so as not to unduly squeeze the market and maximize profits. Rumors suggest NVIDIA will unveil the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti in May, prompting some manufacturers to lower prices in advance to clear inventory and recoup funds expeditiously. Insiders claim board manufacturers are employing various means to reduce the RTX 4060 Ti’s cost, resulting in significant design shifts, such as fewer models equipped with triple-fan, and large heatsink modules, since a 160W total card power consumption does not necessitate such measures.
Furthermore, AMD’s Radeon RX 7000 series graphics cards, built on Navi 32 and Navi 33, have yet to be released. These RDNA 3 architecture products will launch after this year’s Computex, exerting pressure on NVIDIA’s mainstream product line to a certain degree.
