NVIDIA will create CPU R&D group

It is well known that NVIDIA’s acquisition of ARM is very difficult. After all, many ARM customers are currently competing with NVIDIA, which can also be said to disrupt the rhythm of NVIDIA’s entry into the CPU market. But now it seems that NVIDIA is ready to make CPUs because they recently announced that they will create a CPU design and engineering group in Israel, and are planning to recruit hundreds of engineers to join this group.

NVIDIA CTO Michael Kagan said:

“Israel, with its unique wealth of talent, is a key player in the global tech ecosystem, and we are excited to be creating a new CPU group here. We look forward to further growing our local R&D activities both in this area and in our extensive work supporting the local ecosystem through unique programs for startups and developers.”

The new CPU group will work alongside other teams already developing high-level networking, HPC technology, and NVIDIA’s data processing unit. After acquiring Mellanox for $7 billion in 2020, NVIDIA has grown its team in Israel by a third to almost 2,800 employees. After creating a new CPU group, NVIDIA will recruit hundreds of additional people, including hardware, software, and architecture talents, to enter related research and development work.
