Nvidia may launch GeForce RTX 3060 GDDR6X
In 2020, Nvidia launched the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, equipped with a GA104 GPU, and 8GB of GDDR6 memory with a bit width of 256 bits. This year, it launched a version equipped with a GA103 GPU. The specifications of the two are the same. But recently UK retailers have started selling the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti Founders Edition with GDDR6X, boosting the memory specs, and rumors from the past period seem to have been confirmed.
It is still uncertain whether the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X is equipped with GA104 or GA103. The base clock is 1410MHz and the boost clock is 1670MHz. The base clock is the same, but the boost clock is 5MHz higher than the GDDR6 version. Since the video memory was replaced with GDDR6X, the rate was increased from 14Gbps to 19Gbps, and the memory bandwidth was significantly increased. Although the memory specification has been improved, the price of the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti GDDR6X is basically the same as the original version, only slightly more expensive.
The GeForce RTX 3060 Ti doesn’t seem to be the only Ampere-based graphics card to upgrade GDDR6X memory, the GeForce RTX 3060 does something similar. Twitter user @momomo_us found that a Slovakian retailer specializing in Lenovo products has listed the unannounced GeForce RTX 3060 GDDR6X.
The GeForce RTX 3060 was first equipped with a GA106 GPU and 12GB of GDDR6 memory with a bit width of 192 bits. Later, a version equipped with a GA104 GPU appeared, with the same specifications. The base clock of GeForce RTX 3060 GDDR6X is 1320MHz and the boost clock is 1780MHz. The base clock is the same, but the boost clock is 3MHz higher than the GDDR6 version.
Since the retailer did not provide specific specifications, it is temporarily uncertain what the memory speed of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 GDDR6X will be. The original GDDR6 speed is 15Gbps, and the replacement to GDDR6X should be 19Gbps or more. After changing the memory type, the power consumption of the graphics card does not seem to increase, it is still 170W, and it is equipped with an 8Pin external power supply interface.
In addition, pricing for the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 GDDR6X is unclear for the time being, while retailers are not ruling out misinformation. However, whether the information is wrong or it is really upgraded, it is a reasonable explanation at this stage.
