NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang Describes the “iPhone Moment of AI”
During GTC 2023, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang characterized the current state of artificial intelligence technology development as “the iPhone moment of AI,” emphasizing that AI has become more accessible than ever, with large-scale resources available even through a web browser.
In contrast to using Android’s customization to describe smart vehicle design in the past, Huang chose the iPhone to represent the present AI landscape, as AI technology has become as easy to acquire as downloading various apps from the App Store to expand an iPhone’s functionality.
Announcing at GTC 2023 that all businesses can access DGX supercomputer computational resources through cloud connectivity, Huang also revealed collaborations with Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle OCI cloud platform services to bring more AI resources to the cloud, significantly reducing the difficulty of accessing large-scale AI technologies.
Compared to previous conditions, Huang believes the barrier for businesses to access AI technology has substantially diminished. Developers now have a wealth of AI resources, and AI can be utilized simply by opening a web page in a browser, eliminating the need for complex prerequisites.
As acquiring AI technology now resembles downloading apps from the App Store on an iPhone, Huang anticipates a massive AI development and transformation that will revolutionize current lifestyles through more accessible large-scale AI technologies.
Particularly in semiconductor technology development, chip design limited by traditional physical constraints will break through the confines of Moore’s Law with the assistance of AI technology. Collaborations with ASML, TSMC, and Synopsys, leveraging cuLitho software and GPU computation, will accelerate semiconductor process development and fuel growth in application trends.
Regarding the ongoing development of AI technology and whether generative AI will create novel “organisms” or uncontrollable “monsters,” Huang believes that as AI becomes more accessible, people will devote more attention to constructing AI ethics. Over time, AI will further integrate into daily life.
Huang asserts that AI will evolve into a “platform” that will permeate every aspect of human life.
