New GPD Handheld Information Leaked: Equipped with Ryzen 7 7840U

In recent years, Windows handheld gaming devices have been gaining momentum, with many manufacturers joining the competitive market. Due to AMD’s advantage in integrated graphics performance and the power consumption constraints of handheld devices, flagship handheld models generally utilize U-series APUs. As the launch date of the Phoenix APU approaches, Windows handheld manufacturers are likely preparing products featuring the Phoenix APU. Recently, Geekbench and CrossMark databases revealed some information about a new GPD handheld device.

The Geekbench software version is 6.0.2, and although the test results are invalid due to a system timer issue, the configuration information can be gleaned. The new GPD handheld model is GPD G1619-04, equipped with a Ryzen 7 7840U processor. The CrossMark database provides more detailed information, revealing the new GPD handheld has Radeon 780M integrated graphics, 16GB of memory running at 7500MHz, and a screen resolution of 1920×1080.

It is not surprising that the new GPD G1619-04 handheld adopts the Ryzen 7 7840U processor, as the Phoenix APU brings updates to both the CPU and GPU architectures, particularly the improved power efficiency of the Zen 4 architecture, which is undoubtedly good news for Windows handheld devices.

A few days ago, ASUS launched the ROG Ally handheld, which is likely equipped with a customized Phoenix APU. Reports suggest its specifications are comparable to the Ryzen 7 7840U, with 12 compute units for the integrated graphics. At 15W, its performance is 50% higher than the Steam Deck, and at 35W, it doubles the performance of the Steam Deck. The Steam Deck also features a customized APU with a Zen 2 CPU and RDNA 2 GPU architecture, somewhat lagging behind the Phoenix APU’s Zen 4 and RDNA 3 combination. If the leaked power efficiency information is accurate, this generation of Windows handhelds is expected to deliver impressive gaming performance at low power consumption.
