Nearby Sharing feature on Android is the same AirDrop on iOS
Apple’s “AirDrop” feature for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS has greatly improved the transfer efficiency of devices within the Apple ecosystem, as it makes the task of transferring files between Apple devices easy and efficient. There is no need to rely on any third-party solutions.
In this regard, Android is undoubtedly lagging behind, because this open-source system has not yet provided a system-level implementation of AirDrop-like functions, and users must rely on third-party solutions to complete local file transfer tasks. Although Android Beam, which used NFC technology to achieve similar functions, was not fully utilized and popularized.
Recently androidauthority reported that Google is developing AirDrop-like features for Android. The report pointed out that this feature was temporarily named Nearby Sharing. According to the information exposed by XDA, Nearby Sharing will be integrated into the next generation Android system.
Google expects to announce this feature at the I/O conference this year, and of course, it may release Nearby Sharing in advance.
It is worth noting that Samsung may add a sharing feature called Quick Share to the Galaxy S20 series. Of course, the system-level Nearing Sharing feature built by Google is more versatile on Android devices, so it may be better.
