MSI RTX 3080 Ti with 20GB memory spotted
After the launch of NVIDIA’s 30-series graphics cards, rumors surfaced that NVIDIA was on the verge of introducing the RTX 3080 Ti 20G. Even the release date of this graphics card was purportedly leaked. However, for reasons undisclosed, NVIDIA refrained from unveiling the RTX 3080 Ti 20GB.
Concrete evidence attests to the veracity of the rumors surrounding the RTX 3080 Ti 20GB; NVIDIA had indeed been preparing this graphics card. According to Videocardz, an unreleased MSI RTX 3080 Ti 20GB emerged on a secondary market. Specifically, the model was a GeForce RTX 3080 Ti SUPRIM X20GB, with a price tag of 1,100 Australian dollars.
Information provided by GPU-Z reveals that the RTX 3080 Ti 20GB incorporates the GA102 core, boasting 10,496 CUDA cores, 20GB of GDDR6 VRAM, and a 320-bit memory bus width. The frequency ranges from 1335 to 1875MHz, supporting overclocking. Conversely, the RTX 3080 Ti ultimately launched by NVIDIA utilizes the GA102 core, equipped with 10,240 CUDA cores and 12GB 384-bit VRAM, drawing 350W of power.
In the 3DMark TimeSpy benchmark, the RTX 3080 Ti 20GB scored 21,083, surpassing the average score of 19,600 of the RTX 3080 Ti 12GB. It should be noted, however, that driver support for this graphics card is subpar, without updates for over a year, and it appears that the driver has been modified, failing to recognize the card’s specific power draw.
Reports suggest that NVIDIA withdrew the RTX 3080 Ti 20G at the eleventh hour. Yet some manufacturers had already mass-produced a batch of products that might have been destroyed or sold to miners at the time.
