MSI has announced that it will hold an event titled “The Next Playground – Reframed” on September 27, 2022, at 9:20 am PT to introduce a new generation of Z790 motherboards to support Raptor Lake. According to the content of the notice, there should be four Z790 motherboards.
It is understood that MSI’s Z790 motherboard includes MAG, MPG, and MEG series products. MEG Z790 ACE, MPG Z790 Carbon WiFi, MPG Z790 EDGE WiFi Force, and MAG Z790 Tomahawk will offer more new features than Z690 motherboards.

Compared to the Z690 chipset, the new-generation Z790 chipset increases the number of PCIe 4.0 lanes, from 12 to 20, at the expense of reducing the number of PCIe 3.0 lanes, from 16 to 8, and adds a USB 3.2 Gen2x2 port to reach 5. The processor will also have 16 PCIe 5.0 lanes and 4 PCIe 4.0 lanes. Raptor Lake will support DDR5-5600, a higher frequency than is currently natively supported by Alder Lake.
