Mozilla changes to release a new Firefox version every four weeks
Mozilla announced today that they are further tightening the Firefox release cycle and looking forward to releasing a new version of Firefox every month. Currently, Firefox has a 6 to 8-week release rhythm, which is not much different from Google Chrome. But Mozilla has now proposed an ambitious four-week release cycle.
Mozilla wrote:
We’re adjusting our cadence to increase our agility, and bring you new features more quickly. In recent quarters, we’ve had many requests to take features to market sooner. Feature teams are increasingly working in sprints that align better with shorter release cycles. Considering these factors, it is time we changed our release cadence.
Mozilla is pushing Firefox into a four-week release cycle to increase its agility and deliver new features faster. The four-week release rhythm will begin in the first quarter of 2020.
In order to maintain quality, Firefox will have more frequent beta versions, similar to Firefox Nightly. The phased rollout of new features will continue as needed.
