Minisforum B550 Mini-PC on sale starting at $499
Previously, Minisforum had announced a product called the B550 Mini-PC, based on the Ryzen platform, the biggest feature is that it supports a full-size external discrete graphics card. For users who like mini PCs, the biggest annoyance is that generally only GPUs with relatively weak performance can be selected, which affects the experience in some applications. Although with the Thunderbolt 3 interface, this problem can be solved through the graphics card docking station, there will be a certain performance loss, and the cost is high.
The B550 Mini-PC adopts a different idea in design, based on a semi-open design. It uses AMD’s B550 chipset and supports AM4 socket Ryzen 4000/5000 series CPU/APU with TDP not exceeding 65W. Minisforum provides two different APU options, Ryzen 7 5700G (base clock 3.8GHz/boost clock 4.6GHz) and Ryzen 7 4700G (base clock 3.6GHz/boost clock 4.4GHz).
In addition, it supports up to 64GB of DDR4 memory and is equipped with two M.2 2280 slots, while the AMD RZ608 can support Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6 wireless connections.
The overall size of the B550 Mini-PC is 20.859 x 24.088 x 12.813 cm and the weight is 3208g, making it very compact. It is equipped with two HDMI ports, a DisplayPort port, four USB3.2 ports, a USB-C port, an RJ45 2.5Gb Ethernet port, a 3.5mm jack, and a microphone jack. For user convenience, Minisforum also provides a small carrying case.
If users choose to use APU, it is a good mini PC. If they choose Ryzen 9 5900, a high-performance CPU with 12 cores and 24 threads, without an integrated graphics card, they need to use a discrete graphics card. Minisforum will come with a docking station to facilitate the connection of a mini PC and discrete graphics card. Users can purchase a power supply and discrete graphics card to assemble them to expand into a high-performance host.
The B550 Mini-PC starts at $499. In addition to the APU, users can also choose different capacities of memory and storage space.
