Microsoft supply 1 year of free Windows 7 extension support for some companies
The Windows 7 system will be discontinued on January 14, 2020, which means that this classic operating system with a decade of history is about to reach End-Of-Life. Ordinary users will not receive any type of security update, and enterprise users can get up to 3 years of support if they are willing to pay a high fee. Although Microsoft officially announced the pricing strategy for Windows 7 extension support a few months ago, Microsoft has launched a promotion that allows some companies to receive free support for one year for free.
The details of this promotion were originally discovered by media ComputerWorld in a Microsoft support document. According to the documentation, companies with active Windows 10 Enterprise E5, Microsoft 365 E5 or Microsoft 365 E5 Security subscriptions will automatically receive an additional year of Windows 7 system security updates.
Although the document indicates that the promotion started on June 1, it should apply to all users who subscribed before December 31, 2019. Companies that do not qualify will be charged $25 per year for each Windows 7 device and will double the cost of supporting maintenance each year.
