Microsoft stops to develop Windows To Go
Windows To Go is a feature that Microsoft previously provided in the Professional/Enterprise Edition, which installs the operating system on a USB stick or mobile hard drive. This system can be enabled when you need to use another computer when you are away from home, so as to avoid malware or viruses on other computers. Simply put, this function can provide users with a safe and trustworthy environment, and can also carry all the software and files at any time, making us more convenient to use.
According to Microsoft’s announcement, Microsoft will not update this feature since Windows 10 Version 1903, but current users can continue to use it. It is only in the follow-up version that Microsoft may completely remove this feature. When will the feature be deleted, Microsoft does not disclose the information.
As for the reason for deprecating this feature, Microsoft said that the portable system does not support feature updates and does not keep Windows 10 installed in it up to date. At the same time, Windows To Go also requires a specific USB flash drive on the hardware. Although many USB flash drives support it, the manufacturer still needs to obtain Microsoft certification in advance.
According to Microsoft, only the USB flash drive or mobile hard disk that has been certified by the company can use this function. Of course, the price of the certified USB flash drive will be slightly higher. However, Microsoft did not mention whether the user usage rate is too low. After all, many users now have laptops that do not need to use a portable system.
