Microsoft says the Xbox Series S is the main driver of its growth in Asia

Tokyo Game Show 2022 (TGS 2022) will be held in Japan from September 15th to 18th, 2022. Microsoft has tried to further open up the Japanese market for many years, and although the effect is mediocre, it is still reluctant to give up the opportunity to showcase its own games.

According to Wccftech, Xbox head Phil Spencer shared some information about the Xbox business in Asia over the past period of time during a live event at Tokyo Game Show 2022.

Phil Spencer said that in the past year, the Xbox business has developed rapidly in Asia, and his team welcomes players from Asia, including Japan, more than ever. Somewhat unexpectedly, the growth in the number of Xbox gamers is mainly driven by the Xbox Series S, which Phil Spencer said is the main reason for the higher growth rate than in the past. And most of those gamers who bought the Xbox Series S were first-time owners of Microsoft’s console, accounting for more than half of its sales. He said:

“The Xbox Series S is a system aimed at the player that just wants to play games. With Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Microsoft have made an all-digital system compelling even for an old gamer like myself, still clutching onto a physical collection. This console will play all of the games you already enjoy on Xbox better than the Xbox One S could, and will enable you to play all the biggest games for years into the future. If you just want to play games with no-frills, the Xbox Series S is for you.”

Previously, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella was also satisfied with the sales performance of the Xbox Series X/S, saying that it has surpassed Sony’s PlayStation 5 for three consecutive quarters to become the leader in the North American market. According to reports, the Xbox Series S even surpassed the PlayStation 5 in weekly sales in Japan for the first time since 2014.
