Microsoft plans to make a major update to the Windows 10 UI next year
Microsoft is planning to make major improvements to the Windows 10 system. The focus of this improvement will be on the Windows UI, the user interfaces content.
The news broke that Microsoft plans to update the user interface with a new version of modern design, better animations, and new features, including but not limited to the start menu and taskbar.
Even Microsoft will prepare a new file explorer, this project is codenamed Sun Valley within Microsoft, the purpose is to bring a modern Windows desktop experience.
The Windows 10 Sun Valley project seems to be the responsibility of the Windows Devices and Experience team, whose manager is Panos Panay, Microsoft’s chief product officer.
Microsoft has announced earlier that the company will reinvest in Windows 10 next year, and the Sun Valley project is the result of Microsoft’s reinvestment.
In the past few years, Windows 10 has remained almost unchanged, and its design and feature set has only been improved on the previous basis without major redesign.
Microsoft hopes to make major improvements to the Windows 10 desktop experience through the device and experienced team, so as to revive the desktop experience of the Windows system.
It is too early to talk about the changes in the Sun Valley project, but sources said that the start menu and Action Center may be based on Windows 10X style design.
But these will be specially customized for the desktop, and Microsoft is also developing a taskbar built with modern code and improving the file explorer.
For tablet users, it may bring better animation effects and a smoother experience. For example, Microsoft is now redesigning the emoji selector.
Microsoft will also make adjustments to application windows and other edge areas. For example, WinUI is widely used in the Windows Shell module.
The new design style will be an evolution of Microsoft’s smooth design system, but Microsoft will not adjust its name for the time being, so it will continue to be called Microsoft’s smooth design system.
In the new version, Microsoft will not introduce a new design language, so it just updates and adjusts the current desktop language and makes the entire operating system use it.
In terms of release date, these changes should not come in Windows 10 21H1 version, because this version is just a small update without much change.
Microsoft plans to complete the development of these features and changes around June 2021, and then begin testing through the test channel and release a stable version in the fall.
If Microsoft can realize its various functions and plans through the Sun Valley project, it will be the biggest overall change in the years since Windows 10 was released.
Panos Panay hopes that users can love Windows 10 again, and improvements through modern design seem to be the way to make users love again.
It is worth noting that Microsoft will not change the overall usage, but will only update the old experience, so users do not need to relearn the usage after the upgrade.
