Microsoft fixes green screen of death caused by Intel RST driver in Windows 10 21H1

According to calculations in previous years, Microsoft should have released the official version of Windows 10 21H1, but the official version has not been released yet.

This version is currently being tested in the release preview channel. Of course, more testing is not a bad thing because it is better than fixing major problems after release.

For example, after upgrading this version, many users have found frequent green screen crashes in the system recently. The error code that appears when the green screen crashes is BAD_POOL_CALLER.

The problem did not affect too many users. After all, there are not many users currently using the Windows 10 Insider Preview version. At the same time, this problem seems to only affect the devices of the Intel RST system.

After user feedback, Microsoft has confirmed the existence of the problem. After investigation, Microsoft found that it was the driver of the Intel RST storage system that caused the green screen of the crash.

The previous version of the Windows 10 21H1 did not have this problem, but when the user installed the KB5001391 update released by Microsoft, it would crash.

It shows that there is a compatibility issue between the KB5001391 update and the Intel RST storage system driver. After the green screen of death occurs, the system continues to crash after restarting.

Now Microsoft has launched a cumulative update to fix the problem but based on prudent considerations, it is recommended that users do not install it for the time being to avoid the update causing other problems.

Microsoft stated that the KB5001391 update has been withdrawn and repaired after the problem was discovered, and the repaired cumulative update has been re-launched to Insider users.

This update includes the 0xC2 BAD_POOL_CALLER green screen crash problem caused by using IOCTL_SCSI_PASS_THROUGH_DIRECT.

In addition, this cumulative update is also an Update Preview version, so it will not be provided in the Microsoft Patch Center. If users need it, please go to the system update module to check for updates and install them.
