Microsoft explains why Windows 7 was unable to install updates recently
The Windows 7 system, which has been released for a long time, will be completely retired in 2020, and Microsoft is currently convincing users to upgrade to the new system as soon as possible.
But even so, there are still many companies still reluctant to use Windows 10, which is a headache for both users and Microsoft.
In the cumulative update recently released by Microsoft, almost all Windows 7 users can’t regularly update, which is even more of a user’s panic about Microsoft.
Many users believe that this is the intention of Microsoft to stimulate users to upgrade, but Microsoft has now posted a blog to explain the reasons for this error.
Stack updates are automatically skipped and cannot be installed:
Microsoft’s cumulative updates for Windows 7 released last month and this month could not be installed. There will be error codes such as 0x8000FFFF during installation.
Failure to install correctly for two months will naturally cause panic among enterprise users, but Microsoft’s investigation found that the stack update was ignored.
The KB3177467 update released by Microsoft in October 2016 is a stack update whose rating is marked as critical rather than the security fix.
After Microsoft releases the cumulative update service for Windows 7, the system only installs security fixes by default, and other updates are excluded.
Unfortunately, these cumulative updates must have the stack update installed first, so the Windows 7 system does not fit the cumulative update for two consecutive months.
Microsoft will fix the issue in the October update:
At present, Microsoft is not prepared to release the solution directly. Users can manually download the KB3177467 update and install the cumulative update if needed.
And Microsoft is preparing to fix the cumulative update in the next month’s routine update, automatically installing the KB3177467 update before installing the new cumulative update.
Subsequent Microsoft will also adjust the security level of KB3177467, which is changed from a critical level to a security fix so that most system policies are automatically updated.
