Microsoft Edge browser will directly support Google Chrome extensions
Microsoft has recently announced their commitment to the Chromium browser, and then developed the Microsoft Edge browser based on Chromium.
The new browser will support Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 and even the Mac platform and is no longer limited to bundled and pre-installed Windows 10 systems.
From a business perspective, Microsoft’s decision is definitely not a bad thing, but for developers, it is more concerned with whether their applications are directly compatible.
Microsoft plans that the new Microsoft Edge browser will directly support Google Chrome extensions, which means developers don’t need to migrate separately.
For the Microsoft Edge browser, this will get a huge extension of Google Chrome, and users no longer have to worry about not expanding.
But whether Microsoft will still build its own extension library is still unknown. Not building its own extension library means that control is entirely in Google.
Of course, Microsoft may also call the Google Extension Store directly like the OPERA browser. The advantage is that it does not require time and effort to manage these extensions.
