Microsoft Defender fully enable the blocking of Potentially Unwanted Applications

Potentially harmful programs or unwanted programs (PUA) refer to non-virus or malware, but there may be various rogue behaviors such as downloaders or bundlers.

Although this kind of software is not particularly harmful, it may cause confusion to users, especially malicious downloaders that silently download and install all kinds of messy software.

For this type of software, Microsoft’s anti-virus software, Microsoft Defender, has previously brought blocking measures, but the blocking measures are not turned on by default.

After testing, Microsoft believes that it is time to enable blocking measures for potentially harmful programs by default. Starting this month, Microsoft will enable this feature and push it to all users.

Although Microsoft has decided to turn on blocking measures by default, it is still pushing, and most users should not receive the push and therefore have not enabled the PUA blocking program.

However, we can open it ourselves to improve security, and the opening method is also very simple. Just go to the Windows Security Center and click on the app and browser controls.

Then turn on the blocking of potentially unwanted applications in reputation-based protection, and enable blocking measures by turning on both blocking applications and blocking downloads.

After enabling, when you use any browser to download files, they will be checked. If the reputation of the file is too low, it will be automatically blocked by Microsoft to prevent users from running.
