Microsoft confirms that Windows 11 will follow the Windows 10 service model
Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 11 will follow the Windows 10 service model and will provide various system updates including security updates every month.
For now, the updates provided by Microsoft are mainly divided into monthly routine cumulative updates, optional cumulative updates for testing, out-of-band updates, and service stack updates.
In addition, Microsoft also confirmed that Windows 11 will also have a long-term service channel to provide five-year security support so that enterprises do not need to upgrade the system version frequently.
Windows 11 will continue to follow the Windows as a Service (WaaS) service model, and Microsoft will provide Windows 11 with two cumulative updates every month.
Among them, on the second Tuesday of each month, a routine cumulative update will be provided to fix known issues of system functions and repair various security issues.
In the third or third week of each month, Microsoft will provide optional cumulative updates with a test nature, that is, category C/D updates, which will not be installed actively.
Only when users actively click the check for updates button will they get the cumulative update preview. Using the cumulative update preview can test and fix known issues in advance.
In addition, Microsoft will provide service stack updates to improve the stability of the system during the monthly routine updates, while out-of-band updates are used to deal with some emergency situations.
It is worth noting that Microsoft also emphasized that compared to Windows 10, various system updates of Windows 11 will be smaller in size and therefore faster during installation.
Microsoft will also launch a long-term service version of Windows 11 LTSC, which provides a relatively longer support period.
Therefore, if an enterprise uses this version, it does not require frequent system upgrades to obtain security updates, which is a more stable method for some enterprises.
The long-term service version usually releases a new version every three years. As for when the long-term service version of Windows 11 will be released, it is temporarily unclear.
