Microsoft announces to be a Vision Sponsor of Python Software Foundation
Microsoft announced that it will further increase its donation to the Python Software Foundation (PSF) and become its Visionary Sponsor. Since 2006, Microsoft has been a sponsor of PSF. Today, Microsoft will concentrate part of their $150K financial sponsorship of the PSF to the packaging working group to help further the development of PyPI and the packaging ecosystem.
In the past 5 years, Python has benefited from the development of data science, long-term use in scripting, web development, education, and a careful balance of language productivity and ease of use.
It is reported that Microsoft has hired several core developers to work part-time on the CPython and Python steering committees, and have made significant contributions as PEP authors. In addition, Guido van Rossum recently joined Microsoft as an outstanding engineer and is exploring the performance optimization of CPython. In addition to helping advance the Python tools and ecosystem, Microsoft has also shown a strong interest in participating in the Python community and has sponsored PyCon US for a long time.
PSF said that it is very pleasing that Microsoft as a Visionary Sponsor to provide further assistance, and this funding will focus on the packaging working group to improve PyPI and the packaging ecosystem.
