According to a support bulletin issued by Microsoft, the company is aware of the problem that some users cannot open the Windows 11 Start menu after installing the update. Originally this issue was caused by KB5014668, this optional update was released on June 23rd, but then it reached all users via a stable version update.
That is to say, if users install KB5015814 and KB5015882, they will also encounter the same problem. Among them, KB5015814 is also a routine update this month. On affected devices, clicking the Start menu with the mouse will not work, and even pressing the Windows logo key on the keyboard will not work.
According to a note released by Microsoft, the company is working on the issue through a known issue rollback technique. Known issue rollbacks are used by Microsoft to address certain serious issues with a wider impact. Certain updates can be withdrawn through commands from the backend server.
Microsoft writes: “This issue is resolved using Known Issue Rollback (KIR). Please note that it might take up to 24 hours for the resolution to propagate automatically to consumer devices and non-managed business devices. Restarting your Windows device might help the resolution apply to your device faster. For enterprise-managed devices that have installed an affected update and encountered this issue can resolve it by installing and configuring a special Group Policy. The special Group Policy can be found in Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > KB5014668 220721_04201 Known Issue Rollback > Windows 11 (original release).“
