Micron will establish a state-of-the-art memory design center in Atlanta

Micron announced that it will establish a new memory design center in Atlanta, USA. Micron said that this is the most advanced memory design center, and the new site will be officially launched in January 2022. Micron hopes to further expand its business scope through this plan, and at the same time make use of the local technical talent pool. This move will not only enhance Micron’s leadership in memory technology but will also have a positive impact on the local community.

There are many institutions and colleges near the Atlanta area, which have relatively rich educational resources, including Emory University, Georgia Tech, Morehouse College, Spelman College, and the University of Georgia. Micron aims to establish partnerships with local schools to better promote the progress of semiconductor technology. Micron’s new R&D center in Atlanta will provide more than 500 jobs in STEM disciplines such as computer hardware and electrical and electronic engineering.

Micron announced more than a month ago that it plans to invest more than $150 billion globally in the next ten years for memory manufacturing and research and development (R&D), including increasing the production capacity of its fabs to meet the growing demand for memory. Micron President and CEO Sanjay Mehrotra once said that memory is at the forefront of semiconductor manufacturing, powering everything from feature-rich 5G smartphones to cloud computing that supports artificial intelligence. Micron is in a leading position in DRAM and NAND technology and hopes to extend memory innovation to the next decade and provide customers with differentiated products

At present, the share of memory and storage chips in the global semiconductor market is about 30%, and it is growing. Micron’s investment will help further technology research and development.
