Meta open source artificial intelligence project called Animated Drawings
Meta’s Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) team recently unveiled an open-source project called “Animated Drawings,” which can transform doodles directly into animations.
This open-source endeavor utilizes nearly 180,000 pre-annotated doodles combined with relevant algorithms to automatically generate animations based on user-uploaded sketches.
Previously, Meta’s FAIR team had established a related demonstration technology in 2021, operating through a web-based platform that subsequently attracted a plethora of users, uploading over 1.6 million doodles. Ultimately, the platform accumulated more than 6.7 million doodles worldwide, encompassing corporate logos, stuffed animals, pets, portraits, and even non-human animals such as birds and fish.
Meta subsequently filtered the uploaded images, discarding content that did not meet project requirements or compromised privacy and security. In the end, approximately 180,000 doodles were retained for training purposes.
In anticipation of expanding the project’s capabilities, additional features may include transparent backgrounds, support for various skeletal joint analyses, and the incorporation of more expressions, multi-character interactions, sound effects, scenarios, or textual effects.
Meta has announced the open sourcing of this project and plans to apply it to other initiatives, hoping to enable more individuals to effortlessly transform their doodles into animations.
