MediaTek and Nvidia collaborate to launch new Dimensity Auto smart cockpit chip

At the GTC 2024 conference, MediaTek unveiled the groundbreaking Dimensity Auto smart cockpit chip, developed in collaboration with NVIDIA’s technology. This launch comprises four System on Chips (SoCs)—CX-1, CY-1, CM-1, and CV-1—all compatible with the NVIDIA DRIVE OS software. This compatibility allows automobile manufacturers to cater to a broad spectrum of market segments with the Dimensity Auto automotive platform, ranging from entry-level (CV-1) to luxury (CX-1) models, thereby integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into the next generation of intelligent vehicles.

The Dimensity Auto smart cockpit chips integrate the Armv9-A architecture and NVIDIA’s GPU, offering AI and RTX technologies that support ray tracing and deep learning capabilities. They are capable of running large language models (LLMs) directly within the vehicle, enabling advanced AI safety and entertainment applications such as chatbots, enriched multi-screen displays, and driver alertness detection. Executing these applications on the device not only enhances security but also offers the advantages of speed and low latency. Moreover, the new Dimensity Auto smart cockpit platform incorporates hardware-level security features that align with the latest automotive safety standards, further safeguarding user data.

The CX-1, CY-1, CM-1, and CV-1 chips are highly integrated to assist automobile manufacturers in reducing the Bill of Materials (BOM) costs. For instance, they feature a built-in multi-lens HDT ISP that supports forward-looking, cabin, and bird’s-eye view photography, enabling the deployment of various applications to enhance driving safety. MediaTek has also integrated a DSP to support the latest voice assistants, allowing users to access entertainment and information while driving.

The Dimensity Auto smart cockpit platform provides a comprehensive and scalable open platform from NVIDIA, making it equipped for intelligent assisted driving and autonomous driving solutions.
