MasterCard data breach: 90K Mastercard Priceless Specials Members were affected
The database of the famous financial company MasterCard has leaked information, and nearly 90,000 German users participating in the Mastercard Priceless Specials Members program may be affected.
The information that may be leaked includes the user’s name, payment card number, date of birth, gender, mailing address, and contact information, but the payment card expiration time and check number are not leaked. The hacker may have invaded the database after attacking the Specials German loyalty platform. The platform is currently managed by a third-party vendor.

On August 23, MasterCard informed the German and Belgian data protection agencies about the incident and uploaded the information to the data breach inquiry website “Have I Been Pwned” on September 1. At present, MasterCard has notified affected customers who have opened the alert service, and customers who have not opened such services can go to “Have I Been Pwned” to make their own inquiries. The company has initiated an investigation and requested all sites to remove personal information from affected members. In addition, MasterCard has suspended the Mastercard Priceless Specials Members program in the German region.
Experts say that hackers will use the leaked account credentials for credential stuffing attacks. Therefore, affected users should check the passwords of accounts as soon as possible.
