After announcing in May this year that the Facebook Pay name would be changed to
Meta Pay, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg further
explained that this adjustment is in preparation for the next creation of the Metaverse wallet service.
In the previous note, Meta revealed that after adjusting the name of the e-wallet service, the cross-platform experience will be further simplified, and all payment transaction needs in the metaverse environment can be met through a single e-wallet.
In the future, Meta Pay will make it easier to manage personal digital identities and virtual items and can buy all kinds of virtual clothing, artwork, and music content in the Metaverse. In addition, ownership of various digital items can be proved between more metaverses in the future, thereby maintaining their use in different metaverses.
It’s a bit like a cryptocurrency wallet combined with blockchain technology, but Meta has not disclosed whether it will integrate blockchain technology into its metaverse development blueprint.
Prior to this, Meta announced that NFT content could be used on Instagram and Facebook, and earlier invested in the development of cryptocurrency technology, but it ended in failure. Therefore, it was subsequently reported that Meta intends to launch a cryptocurrency technology that is not based on blockchain.
It is not yet clear how Meta will integrate the Meta Pay service with the development of the Metaverse. However, it is expected that with the development of metaverse technology, more standardized specifications will be gradually formed, and more definite application modes will appear.
