MariaDB 5.5 reached End-of-Life
MariaDB 5.5 has been officially announced to end its life cycle. According to the project maintenance policy of the MariaDB Foundation, the maintenance cycle of each version is 5 years. MariaDB 5.5 announced GA on April 11, 2012, so its EOL time should have been April 11, 2017. However, because it was widely used at that time, the Foundation decided to postpone the maintenance for three years.
MariaDB 5.5 reached EOL also means that the MariaDB Foundation will no longer release new versions for MariaDB 5.5 or even fix security issues.
The MariaDB Foundation also released the final version 5.5.68 of MariaDB 5.5, which mainly fixes the security problems left over from the old version. Although the latest version of MySQL 5.5 was last released in 2018, the MariaDB Foundation provides security patches every quarter.
