Linux kernel 5.0 releases
Linus Torvalds announced the official release of the Linux kernel 5.0 on the Linux-kernel mailing list on March 4th. This version is currently included in the kernel.org home page. It should be noted that Linus Torvalds pointed out that the change of the kernel version number does not mean something special:
And appended is – as usual – the shortlog just for the last week. The
overall changes for all of the 5.0 release are much bigger. But I’d
like to point out (yet again) that we don’t do feature-based releases,
and that “5.0” doesn’t mean anything more than that the 4.x numbers
started getting big enough that I ran out of fingers and toes.
There have been many new patches in the past week. Moreover, two-thirds of these patches are for legacy issues of older versions. So the 5.0 version itself doesn’t seem to be a big problem.
