Linux has supported Zen 4/Zen 4c architecture
AMD is currently actively preparing for the next-generation Zen 4 series architecture, and related technical support is also following up. According to Phoronix, AMD has quietly uploaded temperature sensor driver support for Zen 4 and Zen 4c architecture cores recently. While the two cores share the same microarchitecture, there are actually differences. The Zen 4 and Zen 4c architectures power the EPYC processors codenamed Genoa and Bergamo, respectively, with support categorized as AMD Family 19h Models 10h-1Fh/A0h-AFh.
Interestingly, future AMD platforms may have new Scalable Machine Check Architecture (SMCA) that will use different types of SMCA, and thus different kernels. So far, AMD has not released a hybrid processor that integrates different types of cores. Since AMD will soon have Zen 4 and Zen 4c architecture cores, the possibility of large and small cores cannot be ruled out in the future. The new SMCA indicates that the Zen 4c architecture will have some different mechanisms that need to be supported in Linux.
